Our Fabric Printing Services

Acid Dyeing

Acid Dyes are used to dye protein fibres such as silk, wool, angora, alpaca, mohair, feathers, etc., and even man-made Nylon for swimwear and active wear.

The "acid" part of the name comes into play because a very mild acid like household white vinegar, or odourless Citric Acid, is used to lower the pH of the dye-bath so it is slightly acidic, which causes the dye to bond to the protein fibres. The fabrics need to be coated prior to print, then steamed and washed post print, all of which we do in house.

Our machine is set up for stretch Nylons, though we can print on some Silks and woven wool.

Acid Dyed Nylons hold shape very well, with good elastic memory, colour fastness and handle.

Reactive Dyeing

For Reactive Dye printing we use non-toxic water based dyes. As with Acid Dye, the fabrics are pre-coated before printing. and steamed after printing, creating a reaction that dyes the fibres right through.

The fabric is then washed through our roll-to-roll washing machine, through baths of waters with different temperatures, before drying, and winding back onto the roll, ready for cutters or makers.

Our reactive fabrics are printed, steamed and laundered in the same production line reducing as much as possible the energy and water consumption.

Reactive dyes have a very good colour fastness and are ideal for cotton, linen, rayon, nylon and other cellulosic materials. It can also be used to print on some silks.

Dye Sublimation

Sublimation printing is a technique that uses heat sensitive inks. These inks turn into gas under the influence of heat and combine with a 100% polyester medium. Since the ink becomes part of the structure of the material, the prints on the fabric are wash and wear ready.

There are two processes available: Transfer Dye Sublimation and Direct Dye Sublimation. For the apparel industry, we use transfer Dye Sublimation, as it doesn't require the base Polyester fabrics to be pre-coated. All it needs is the heat (sublimation) process to fixate the dye and make it ready for the cutters and makers.

The process only works on Polyester base cloths, though some mixed textiles like an 80:20 Poly-cotton, may work, depending on the construction of the weave, and which yarn is on the surface. It's always best to have a chat with one of us, to see what we can do to get your creativity onto your chosen fabrics.
